Supercool, fast,
light, compact Adventure Boat
March 21, 2007
I really like the field of versatile compact boats that
really get some sort of task done with pizzazz.
Here's one that wins big. A kayak-type trimaran that really
kicks out the jams.
I like the slender multihull approach. I also really like sails.
At the same time I have to be able to paddle or row a boat. I
don't like sitting around doing nothing when the wind dies.
What's really startling is that this boat is rated at 20 knots.
Isn't that about 30mph? Whoa... In everyday life what that means
to me is that in light airs it still probably glides right
along, twice as fast as other quiet-boats. It's probably going
modest motorboat speed in a light breeze. Whew!
It's also available in kit form and is designed for
lightweight---to be easily dismantled and transported on a
car-top.
Last, and perhaps belonging in the first graf, this boat is
meant for speed but also for families and picnicking. You don't
have to get drenched and you can haul along a bunch of stuff.
The builder, is someone who loves small boats.
He does adventure races himself.
I like the fact that quite a few people involved in the
adventure boat scene participate in several aspects. Like the
guy who runs the WaterTribe events---I believe that he's also
building a supercool adventure sail/kayak-multihull right now as
well. Fun, community-type stuff!
