We're in the business of Grins!  Big, Ear to Ear Grins!  Grins from the rush you get.  Grins that come from unplugging from the matrix we live in.  Grins from seeing whales, dolphins & seals.  Grins from your kids having a blast.   Grins that come from hard earned money well spent. Grins from feeling alive!

News & Updates

2/23/08  Going to Florida for the Race! We are departing on 2/27 to go to Florida to compete in the Everglades Challenge and in the Ultimate Florida Challenge.  We would like to than our new sponsors Waters Sails, Erin Baker's Cookies, and NRS for making it possible.  To follow the race, got to www.Watertribe.com and click on Discussion Board and look for "Log Entries" on March 1st and thereafter.  Since postings are done by tribal name only, our "tribal Name" is Archangel. So look for postings by Archangel.  There is a good interactive map attached.

12/12 Have been busy with newly adopted son, including 3 days in the hospital. Sails have arrived. Assembled the masts and hardware.  Finishing the rigs this weekend.  All hardware, furlers, blocks etc. being ordered.  The 22 should be on the water about the same time as the 24!

10/24 The deck hardware is all on, with marine ply backing plates and 3M 5200 sealant, as is the bowsprit holder and crossbeam clamps.  We will install the dagger-board cases this weekend and join the hulls next week!

10/10 The First Hulls are out of the Mold!!!!!  We Finally did it!  What a process! Laying up the molds themselves took much longer than we expected. After parting the molds, we had to sand out any and all imperfections in progressively finer grits, then buffer polish the entire surface.  Then we had to put 4 coats of aerospace sealer on, followed by 4 coats of high-grade wax with polishing after each coat.  The we took the molds to our builder and resident expert, Sterling Donalson at Sterling's Kayaks & Fiberglass, to do the high-tech resin infusion process.  Western Washington's Vehicle Research program generously donated lots of 16K tow carbon fiber.

8/28 Got all the gussets and flange attached to both hulls, sprayed on tooling gel and filled joining line with fillet so mat adheres to the tooling gel.  Tooling gel must harden completely. Will lay-up cloth tomorrow.

8/15 After that week of sanding that turned into 2 weeks of hard work, we're very close to making the molds. One more week of sanding, sealing, waxing, and building the table, gussets and flange.  Dates set to make molds: August 25th-28th.

8/6 Found a great sail maker to make affordable, high-tech laminate bolt-rope sails that raise, lower and reef

7/27/06 The double hull and ama plugs have been perfectly faired and sprayed with a final coat of Duratec primer.  Now a week of sanding with 100 through 1,000 grit, polish them with a buffer, put 4 coats of wax on, and we'll be ready to spray on special tooling gel and lay up the molds.  Should have both boats on the water by September

7/26/07 Received the rigs, they look great!

6/06 Decided to build a single version as well that will share many of the same parts and pieces. Shaped the amas in a weekend and glass over them.  Will fair and Duratec these as well.  Should have this thing on the water by September

3/25/06 Finished remodeling plug! Now just a lot of bondo and sanding work before pulling a mold off it.  Photos posted in gallery.

1/2/06 Significant remodeling on the plug!  Watching the marine forecast off Florida with 8-10 foot waves, decided sit-on-top design would be prudent rather than cockpits which could swamp.  At the same time, making the crossbeams clamp down in a 1/2 socket for a tight, secure fit instead of sliding into a tube, which by necessity has some play.  This means reshaping much of the deck.

10/10/05 Launched the prototype on the lake minus sail rigs.  Paddled like a dream, exactly as intended!  Need to raise crossbeams a little so 1 ama is always free of the water.

9/2-3/05 Raced on Cheekee Monkee, a highly modified F-31 and the fastest tri (at the moment) in the pacific northwest.  Killed the competition in PITCH regatta.  A total blast, but probably a $600,000 boat with all the modifications.   Thanks Kim!

8/25/05 Trampoline nets ordered from Oyster Creek canvas

7/25/05  Foils arrive.  Wow they're a work of art! 5' long carbon daggerboard...

5/22/05 Cross beams have been received, Naval Architect being consulted to make sure all dimensions are well balanced and within adequate safety margins

2/15/05 Hulls are complete and float, although not yet pretty.  Lots of Bondo and sanding ahead for perfect lines and smooth finish before making hull molds.

1/8/05 Melted out all that foam using Acetone - Yuck! what a smelly and gooey job!

12/29/04 Epoxied over the finished foam hulls, using thin foam core in between layers.

9/15/04 Lots of Styrofoam, hand saws and "Sureform" cheesegraters purchased for shaping the hulls

7/04  AdventureTri hybrid trimaran conceived, start working on line drawings, researching ideas and supplies
